Will Crawford has been pole vaulting for two years. Since that time, he has been chasing a height of 12 feet and four inches, the record at North Callaway High School. The record set by his father in 1981.

As Will's senior season was coming to an end, he was running out of time to eclipse his dad. On a cold morning at the Class 3 District 4 meet, the poles were less springy, the wind blew directly in his face. He missed his first two attempts at 12-6. On his third try, his leg nudged the bar and it bounced off the support, but stayed on.

He broke the record.
